eTrading for Schools FAQ's

What is eTrading for Schools? eTrading for Schools is an eProcurement system that has been designed specifically for schools. It allows schools to source and order goods and services online, and transact electronically with suppliers.

Will there be any cost for my school? No. There is no cost to the schools for the implementation of the eTrading for Schools system.

Will my school need new hardware? No. To take part you will only need SIMS capability and access to the Internet.

My school doesn’t use SIMS – can I still take part? Your Local Authority will be in touch with you about this. For the purposes of this trial, only schools with SIMS will take part. However, your Local Authority may be implementing SIMS at the same time as eTrading for Schools.

Can my school continue to use SIMS? Yes. eTrading for Schools integrates with SIMS. This means that you can continue to use your existing workflow – for authorisation for example – whilst using the system.

Will schools receive training and support?Yes. All staff who will use eTrading for Schools will receive training on how to use the system as part of the implementation. Only one afternoon is required for this. Training guides will also be provided. First line, day-to-day support will be provided by your I.T. and SIMS teams.

Can I continue to use my existing suppliers? Yes. Your existing suppliers will be contacted and invited to register. You will also find local, regional and national suppliers who are new to you on the system, as well as framework contracts.
